What is Yakult?

My older son took me to a boba drink shop, which is typically a Taiwanese style drink shop featuring iced teas with boba (tapioca balls), sweeteners, and various toppings. I noticed that some drinks have the option to add a Yakult drink.

What is Yakult (sounds like yaa-cult)? Yakult is a Japanese yogurt drink, a milk-based sweetened drink with probiotics. Individual portions are packaged in a small white plastic bottle with a red and silver foil lid.

Even though Yakult is a sweet drink with a citrusy tangy flavor, it contains a relatively low amount of sugar, approximately 8 grams per 3 ounce bottle. If your dietary preference is less sugar, then consider Yakult Light (blue label), with 3 grams of sugar.

Surprising Benefit of Eating Watermelon for People with Allergies

Since watermelon is a fruit, with lots of fiber and vitamins, it has a lot of health benefits. Watermelon is considered a nutrient dense food and eating it contributes to a higher diet quality in both children and adults.

I was surprised to learn that foods high in vitamin C, such as watermelon, reduce histamines and our bodies’ inflammatory responses, which is good for our general allergic condition and not in an emergency when epinephrine is needed. Eat and enjoy watermelon as a healthy snack.

I love to use my double wall glasses by Bodum for a cold drink because they’re insulated but it’s necessary to use a wooden or a plastic spoon to mix or stir anything.

Easy 2-Ingredient Healthy Summer Beverage

This easy and refreshing drink is lightly sweetened, tangy, with a hint of citrus and/or vanilla. It’s a two ingredient “recipe” with probiotics which is good for our health in general and mashed watermelon fruit and its juices. The resulting drink is cold, refreshing, hydrating, and a great alternative to soft drinks or cocktails.

When I cut watermelon, I try to cut it without touching the watermelon pieces. As a result, I leave behind some watermelon in the rind and I use a sturdy spoon to scoop out the remaining watermelon and juices for this drink.

Otherwise I dice about 1/2 cup of watermelon and smash the pieces with a spoon for the drink, add 1/2 cup of ice, and a bottle of Yakult. This drink is much more satisfying and refreshing than eating 1/2 cup of watermelon and drinking a bottle of Yakult separately.

Allergy Aware Watermelon Yakult Drink

I checked their website and contacted the Yakult company regarding any potential cross-contact with top allergens. Yakult is a milk-based drink and it is otherwise free of peanuts, tree nuts, and other top allergens except milk.

My younger son saw me making this drink and thought it was so cool. He strongly encouraged me to share this recipe with you and even helped me film and edit a video for me, which you can see on my Instagram page. As you know, I have a soft spot for sharing what my sons’ like and enjoy.

This recipe is free of peanuts, tree nuts, egg, sesame, soy, fish, shellfish, and wheat as written.

Should work perfectly with the watermelon that I have frozen in the freezer. We had a family gathering a few weeks ago and the watermelon was too big for us to consume. Because we were leaving for vacation and I didn’t want it to spoil, I cut the remaining watermelon away from the rind and froze the cubed-cuts in a Ziplock bag.
